Gilbert, AZ


Overview
Gilbert is a town in Maricopa County in the State of Arizona. In the late 1990's and early 2000's Gilbert was the fastest-growing suburb in the United States. Gilbert is still a town rather than a city and has the highest population as a town out of any in the United States. According to the 2004 Census, Gilberts population was estimated at 164,685. Between 1980 and 1991 Gilbert's population increased by an astonishing 410 percent. According to the residents, the rapid growth was due largely to Gilbert's quality of life.

Geography
Gilbert is approximately 1230 feet above sea level located in the Sonoran Desert. Gilbert is approximately 25 miles east of Phoenix and like Phoenix is surrounded by the White Tank Mountains, the Sierra Estrella Mountains, the Superstition Mountains and the McDowell Mountains.

Climate
Gilbert's dry climate holds some of the hottest seasonal temperatures with the warmest months are from June through the early part of September. Daily average highs are in the 100 degree F range. July averages a daily temperature of 106 degrees F. The highest recorded temperature was 119 degrees F back in 1907. Gilbert's average annual rainfall is 8.8 inches. March, on average, is the wettest month of the year with precipitation averaging 1.19 inches.

Things To Do
Gilbert provides opportunities on all levels along with providing the best in recreation. To the northeast of Gilbert are the Superstition Mountains and the Tonto National Forest. The annual "Gilbert Days Rodeo" held at the end of November is a favorite. Gilbert also offers lakes and miles of biking and horseback riding. Along with the popular Gilbert golf courses, every outdoor activity imaginable is available. Gilbert is a great place to make a home.
