Mesa is located in Maricopa county in the state of Arizona. Mesa is the third-largest city in Arizona after Phoenix and Tucson. According to the 2004 Census, Mesa's population was estimated at 447,130. Mesa is approximately 15 miles southeast of Phoenix and is one of the nation's fastest growing cities.

The city of Mesa is 1255 feet above sea level and spreads over a plateau or mesa thus, giving Mesa it's name.

Climate
Mesa's arid climate provides for some of the warmest temperatures anywhere. The hottest month in Mesa is July with temperatures averaging 106 degrees F. The hottest recorded temperature was 109 degrees F back in 1907. On average the coolest month is December and the maximum average precipitation in Mesa occurs in March with 1.19 inches.
