Tempe is a city in Maricopa County in the State of Arizona. The Salt River runs west through the northern part of Tempe. Phoenix is located approximately 10 miles to the northeast of Tempe. According to the 2004 Census, the estimated population of Tempe was 160,820. Arizona State University's main campus is located in Tempe with over 44,000 students. Tempe is also referred to as the "Tech Oasis" withover 200 high-tech companies calling Tempe home.

Tempe is 1160 feet above sea level. Tempe is primarly flat, except for Hayden Butte. Bell Butte and Twin Butte are on the western edge of Tempe.

Tempe's summers are hot. Average daily temperatures are over 100 degrees F. Daily lows average a very comfortable 68-76 degrees F. The arid climate and over 300 days of sunshine a year make for perfect weather conditions.
